Week Ahead: Lane closures planned this week on I-71, I-265 for work on sound wall, barriers
Traffic impacted in several sections of project area
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to make progress on the I-Move Kentucky project as crews work in several areas of I-71, I-64 and I-265. Work to install sound barriers and remove a temporary barrier wall along I-71 will require lane closures this week.
On Monday at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Tuesday and overnight several nights this week, traffic will be reduced on I-71 southbound for the installation of sound barrier wall panels. The lane closure will begin near the rest area near mile point 13 and continue past Moser Farm Road at mile point 11.8.
On Monday and Tuesday from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning, traffic will be reduced on I-71 for work to remove a temporary barrier wall. The lane closure will begin at the I-265 interchange at mile point 9.1 and continue to Chamberlain Lane at mile point 9.8 on both I-71 northbound and southbound.
On Monday and Tuesday from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning, traffic will be reduced on I-265 to install a temporary barrier wall.
The lane closure will begin near Shelbyville Road at mile point 26.8 and continue to the I-64 interchange at mile point 25.4.
Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen delays. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through active construction areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.
Other I-Move Kentucky Work Areas
I-71/I-265 interchange – Work continues on new bridges, access ramps and along I-71 near mile point 9.1. The new collector-distributor lane opened earlier this year to improve safety for vehicles entering and exiting the roadway. No traffic impacts are expected this week.
I-71 – Blasting work for the widening of I-71 continues requiring rolling lane closures and short-term road closures daily, including some weekends, between noon and 3 p.m. while blasting is completed. Preparation work in this area is ongoing to allow for widening of the corridor and construction of a new Brownsboro Road (KY 1694) bridge over I-71. Work on the shoulder of I-71 northbound near Brownsboro Road may require traffic shifts. Crews continue to work to extend a culvert that will allow for the widening of I-71. See other traffic impacts listed above on I-71.
I-265 – Work continues to widen the I-265 requiring traffic shifts on I-265 northbound and southbound between Shelbyville Road at mile point 26.8 and the I-64 interchange at mile point 25.4. See other traffic impacts listed above on I-265.
I-265/I64 interchange – Work continues to rebuild the interchange. No traffic impacts are expected this week.
