Week Ahead: Construction work requires lane and shoulder closures this week
Traffic impacted on sections of I-265, I-71 and I-64
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to make progress on the I-Move Kentucky project as crews work in several areas of I-71, I-64 and I-265. Construction work will require lane and shoulder closures this week on several sections of the project area starting tonight (Monday). 
On Monday from 8 p.m. to Tuesday at 6 a.m., traffic will be reduced by one lane on I-71 northbound near Chamberlain Lane for work on the construction of a sound wall. The closure will begin north of Chamberlain Lane near mile point 9.8 and continue to near Brownsboro Road at mile point 10.3. Crews will be installing a construction entrance to access the site of a new sound wall that will be installed.
On Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the shoulder on the ramp from I-64 westbound to I-265 northbound will be closed while crews preform repair work. The ramp is located at mile point 19 of I-64.
On Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, traffic will be reduced by one lane on I-265 northbound and southbound for milling and paving operations on the shoulder. The closure will start near I-64 at mile point 25.4 and continue to Shelbyville Road at mile point 26.8. Once paving is completed, traffic will be shifted to the newly paved lanes of I-265 on Thursday and Friday, which will temporarily reduce shoulder widths.
Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen delays. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through active construction areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.
Other I-Move Kentucky Work Areas
I-71/I-265 interchange – Work continues on new bridges, access ramps and along I-71 near mile point 9.1. The new collector-distributor lane opened earlier this year to improve safety for vehicles entering and exiting the roadway. See traffic impact listed above on I-71 northbound.
I-265/I-64 interchange – Traffic will be reduced by one lane on I-64 westbound near the I-265 interchange while bridge work is performed overhead for several weeks. The closure will begin after the I-64 westbound to I-265 northbound ramp shifting the acceleration lane for traffic merging onto the mainline roadway to the left at mile point 19. I-71 – Blasting work on I-71 northbound and southbound is under way and continues daily. This will require rolling lane closures and short-term road closures daily, including some weekends, between noon and 3 p.m. while blasting is completed near mile point 11.8. Closures are necessary during excavation work for the safety of construction crews and the public.
Preparation work in this area is ongoing to allow for widening of the corridor and construction of a new Brownsboro Road (KY 1694) bridge over I-71. This work zone is located between mile point 10.3 and mile point 9.1 of I-71 southbound. No traffic impacts are expected this week. Crews continue to work to extend a culvert that will allow for the widening of I-71. No traffic impacts are expected as work continues between mile point 14.5 and mile point 13.5 of I-71 southbound.
