Week Ahead: Major Work Continues on I-71 and I-265

Lane closures planned this week on I-Move KY project

Construction crews are continuing work this week in several areas of the I-Move Kentucky project. Overnight lane closures are planned on I-71 southbound. Work currently is underway in several areas of I-71, I-265 and adjacent roadways in Jefferson County.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises drivers to be cautious when traveling in these areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones. Work schedules may be adjusted due to inclement weather or other unforeseen delays.

I-71/I-265 (Gene Snyder Freeway) interchange – Crews will be working in the median area of I-71 to prepare for construction of a new collector distributor lane and widen I-71 in that area.

  • Left lane of I-71 southbound will be closed at the I-71/265 interchange.
  • Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 2.3
  • Work and lane closures will occur overnight, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Located between mile point 8.7 and mile point 9.8 of I-71.

Crews also are working along the roadways and ramps of this interchange. Their work includes excavation and construction of a soil nail (retaining) wall along the southbound lanes of I-71 beneath I-265.

Brownsboro Road (KY 1694) bridge over I-71 – Crews continue construction work to prepare to replace the bridge over I-71. A water transmission line is also being relocated in the area in preparation of bridge construction. Short, periodic stoppages of traffic on KY 1694 (Brownsboro Road) may be necessary. The project is located at mile point 0.3 of KY 1694.

I-265 bridges over La Grange Road – Maintenance and concrete patching work continues as part of improvements to I-265. No traffic impacts are expected.
