Weekend Report: Lane Closure Planned on I-71

Construction work planned overnight Sunday starting at 6 p.m.

There is ongoing work at the I-71/I-265 interchange to prepare for the construction of a collector-distributor lane on southbound I-71 and to improve safety and ease ramp movements.

Contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s I-Move Kentucky Project will be working overnight Sunday to lessen impacts on weekday travelers on Interstate 71 southbound.

Crews will perform cement stabilization work in the median along I-71 southbound, between the KY 1694/Brownsboro Road bridge over I-71 and the interchange with the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265), to prepare for the eventual widening of I-71. As a result, the left lane of I-71 southbound will be closed overnight Sunday.

The lane closure will occur between mile point 9.1 and mile point 10.2 of I-71 southbound.

Work in this area will start around 6 p.m. Sunday and continue through 6 a.m. Monday morning. Drivers should be cautious when traveling in this area. Signage will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.

Work schedules may be adjusted due to inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
