I-Move Weekend Report: Construction at I-71/I-265 and paving on I-71 require closures

Traffic will be impacted by road, lane and ramp closures this weekend

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to make progress on the I-Move Kentucky project as crews work in several areas of I-71 and I-265. Construction work at the I-71/I-265 interchange and paving operations on I-71 northbound will impact traffic this weekend.

Several closures are planned starting Friday at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Saturday to accommodate work on a new bridge over I-71. Rolling road closures will be required across all lanes of I-71 in 15-minute intervals throughout the night as beams are set. The road closure on I-71 southbound will start near the rest area near mile point 12. The road closure on I-71 northbound will start at the I-264 (Watterson Expressway) interchange at mile point 5.1. Additionally, Brownsboro Road near I-71 will be reduced to one lane.

Throughout the weekend, paving operations on I-71 northbound will require lane closures between the I-71/I-265 interchange at mile point 9.1 and the Oldham County line near mile point 11. Overnight Friday the right lane will be closed as paving is under way. On Saturday afternoon, traffic will be shifted to newly paved lanes and the left lane will be closed and paved.

On Sunday afternoon until 6 a.m. Monday, the ramp from I-71 southbound to I-265 southbound will be closed to allow for crews to shift traffic.

Drivers should be cautious when traveling through active construction areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones. Work schedules may be adjusted due to inclement weather or other unforeseen delays.
