Week Ahead: Bridge work requires intermittent road closures on I-71 Tuesday night

Traffic will be impacted on I-71 northbound and southbound

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to make progress on the I-Move Kentucky project as crews work in several areas of I-71, I-64 and I-265. Work to set beams on the new Brownsboro Road bridge over I-71 will require intermittent road closures overnight Tuesday.

On Tuesday from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, work to set beams for the Brownsboro Road bridge over I-71 will require intermittent road closures on I-71 northbound and southbound. Rolling road blocks will be in place as each beam is set on the Brownsboro Road bridge at mile marker 10.3. Intermittent road closures on Brownsboro Road will also be required as beams are installed.

Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen delays. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through active construction areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.

Other I-Move Kentucky Work Areas

I-71 – Work continues to widen to the roadway including excavation, bridge replacements, paving operations, and the installation sound barrier walls. Ongoing blasting work on I-71 northbound requires rolling lane closures and short-term road closures daily, including some weekends, between noon and 3 p.m. while blasting is completed. Shoulder closures and overnight lane closures may occur during sound barrier wall installation. See planned traffic impacts listed above.

I-71/I-265 interchange – Work continues on new bridges, access ramps and along I-71 near mile point 9.1. The new collector-distributor lane opened earlier this year to improve safety for vehicles entering and exiting the roadway. Ramp and lane closures are planned later this week and this weekend as surface paving work is completed on I-71 between the I-265 interchange and Highway 329.

I-265 – Work continues to widen the roadway including excavation in the median and paving operations. Ongoing work requires traffic shifts on I-265 northbound and southbound between Shelbyville Road at mile point 26.8 and Taylorsville Road at mile point 23.1. Traffic shifts to enter I-265 from Shelbyville Road to accommodate ongoing construction of new bridge piers for the I-265 bridge also continue this month.

I-265/I64 interchange – Work continues to rebuild the interchange including a new bridge, access ramps and along I-265 near mile point 25.4.
