I-71 South Closure Scheduled as Resurfacing Project Ramps Up
This project is not part of I-Move Kentucky but is expected to increase traffic through the I-Move corridor.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that a 10-day closure of Interstate 71 South has been scheduled for later this week in Louisville.
I-71 South will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, to 7 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, between I-264 (Watterson Expressway) and I-265 (Gene Snyder Freeway). The ramps to I-71 South at the I-265 interchange will also be closed.
The suggested alternate route for motorists on I-71 South and I-265 South will be I-265 South to I-64 West to I-264 East to I-71 South. Motorists on I-265 North can continue to U.S. 42 West (Exit 37) to I-264 East to I-71 South.
Regional traffic signs and electronic message boards were posted in the project area well in advance, notifying motorists of the closures and alternate routes. Motorists should heed signage, use caution and expect delays while traveling through the work zones.
In August, KYTC announced a $7.6 million asphalt resurfacing project for I-71 between I-265 and the bridge over Blankenbaker Lane at mile marker 3.7. The southbound closure will allow contractors to complete more extensive repairs to the base of the southbound lanes between I-264 and I-265. Northbound lanes will remain open during the southbound closure. The entire project is scheduled to be completed this fall, except for some work on the interstate bridges within the project.
