I-Move Week Ahead: Lane closures planned on I-71 northbound and I-265 this week

Traffic will be impacted on I-71 between the rest area and Highway 329

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to make progress on the I-Move Kentucky project as crews work in several areas of I-71, I-64 and I-265. Work to shift a barrier wall on I-71 northbound will require a lane closure overnight Tuesday through Thursday. Work to patch potholes will require a lane closure overnight Wednesday on I-265.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning, traffic will be reduced by one lane on I-71 northbound to shift a barrier wall. The lane closure will begin at the rest area at mile point 13 and continue to the Highway 329 bridge at mile point 14.5.

On Wednesday from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Thursday morning, traffic will be reduced by one lane on I-265 northbound and southbound for work to repair potholes. The lane closure will begin at Shelbyville Road at mile point 26.8 and continue to Aiken Road at mile point 27.7.

Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen delays. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through active construction areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.

I-71 – Work continues to widen to the roadway including excavation, bridge replacements, paving operations, and the installation sound barrier walls. Ongoing blasting work on I-71 northbound requires rolling lane closures and short-term road closures daily, including some weekends, between noon and 3 p.m. while blasting is completed. Shoulder closures and overnight lane closures may occur during sound barrier wall installation. See planned traffic impacts listed above.

I-71/I-265 interchange – Work continues on new bridges, access ramps and along I-71 near mile point 9.1. The new collector-distributor lane opened earlier this year to improve safety for vehicles entering and exiting the roadway.

I-265 – Work continues to widen the roadway including excavation in the median and paving operations. Ongoing work requires traffic shifts on I-265 northbound and southbound between Shelbyville Road at mile point 26.8 and Taylorsville Road at mile point 23.1. Traffic shifts to enter I-265 from Shelbyville Road to accommodate ongoing construction of new bridge piers for the I-265 bridge also continue this month.

On Friday from 8 p.m. until Saturday at 8 p.m., work to pave the right lane of I-71 southbound will also require lane and ramp closures. Traffic will be reduced to one lane starting at the Highway 329 bridge at mile point 14.5 and continuing to the rest area at mile point 12. The ramp from Highway 329 onto I-71 southbound will be closed while this work is completed.

On Saturday at 8 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m., work to pave the left lane of I-71 southbound will require traffic to be reduced to one lane starting at the Highway 329 bridge at mile point 14.5 and continuing to the rest area at mile point 12.

On Tuesday from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, work to set beams for the Brownsboro Road bridge over I-71 will require intermittent road closures on I-71 northbound and southbound. Rolling road blocks will be in place as each beam is set on the Brownsboro Road bridge at mile marker 10.3. Intermittent road closures on Brownsboro Road will also be required as beams are installed.
