I-Move Traffic Alert: Rest area closed for blasting; Ramp closures at the I-265 and I-71 interchange

Ongoing work to widen Interstate 71 and I-265 (Gene Snyder Freeway) as part of the I-Move Kentucky project will require the multi-day closure of a rest area and major overnight ramp closures.

REST AREA

Beginning Tuesday, July 26, until further notice, the I-71 South rest area in Crestwood at mile marker 13 will be closed weekdays from approximately 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The closure will ensure the safety of the public and construction crews while blasting work is performed nearby.

The timeframe for blasting is generally weekdays between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. when weather conditions are dry. In addition to the rest area closure, rolling traffic stoppages will continue to be in effect during the blasting timeframe for both northbound and southbound I-71 for the safety of workers and drivers. The roadway will typically reopen to traffic within 15 minutes unless debris cleanup is necessary.

RAMP CLOSURES

Paving work will require three overnight ramp closures at the I-71 and I-265 interchange Tuesday, July 26. The following ramp closures will be in effect from 8 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday:

• Ramp from I-265 North to I-71 South
• Ramp from I-265 South to I-71 South
• Ramp from I-71 South to I-265 South

Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes.

Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen events. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through active work zones. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.
