Traffic will be impacted on I-71 southbound and I-265 ramps
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to make progress on the I-Move Kentucky project as crews work in several areas of I-71, I-64 and I-265. Ongoing work for surface paving will require lane closures on I-71 southbound and ramp closures at the I-71/I-265 interchange this weekend.
On Friday from 8 p.m. until Saturday at 6 p.m., work to pave the collector-distributor (C-D) lane on I-71 southbound and three access ramps will require lane and ramp closures. The C-D lane near mile point 9.4 of I-71 southbound will be closed while this work is completed as well as three ramps at the I-71/I-265 interchange including: ramp from I-71 southbound to I-265 southbound; ramp from I-265 northbound to I-71 southbound; and ramp from I-71 southbound to I-265 northbound.
On Saturday from 8 p.m. until Sunday at 11 a.m., work to pave the I-71 southbound mainline roadway will require traffic to be diverted to the collector-distributor lane. The closure will start at the entrance to the C-D lane near mile point 9.4 and continue past the I-265 bridge to near Springdale Road at mile point 8.7.
On Sunday from 8 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m., work to pave the shoulders of the I-71 southbound mainline roadway will require traffic to be diverted to the collector-distributor lane. The closure will start at the entrance to the C-D lane near mile point 9.4 and continue past the I-265 bridge to near Springdale Road at mile point 8.7.
Surface paving work at this interchange is scheduled to continue for several days after these pieces are completed through early August.
Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen delays. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through active construction areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.
Other I-Move Kentucky Work Areas
I-71 – Work continues to widen to the roadway including excavation, bridge replacements, paving operations, and the installation sound barrier walls. Ongoing blasting work on I-71 northbound requires rolling lane closures and short-term road closures daily, including some weekends, between noon and 3 p.m. while blasting is completed. Shoulder closures and overnight lane closures may occur during sound barrier wall installation. See planned traffic impacts listed above.
I-71/I-265 interchange – Work continues on new bridges, access ramps and along I-71 near mile point 9.1. The new collector-distributor lane opened earlier this year to improve safety for vehicles entering and exiting the roadway. Ramp closures are planned this week as surface paving work is completed on I-71 at the I-265 interchange.
I-265 – Work continues to widen the roadway including excavation in the median and paving operations. Ongoing work requires traffic shifts on I-265 northbound and southbound between Shelbyville Road at mile point 26.8 and Taylorsville Road at mile point 23.1. Traffic shifts to enter I-265 from Shelbyville Road to accommodate ongoing construction of new bridge piers for the I-265 bridge also continue this month.
I-265/I64 interchange – Work continues to rebuild the interchange including a new bridge, access ramps and along I-265 near mile point 25.4.
