I-Move Weekend Report: Lane, ramp and rest area closures planned on I-71 southbound this weekend
Traffic will be impacted between Highway 329 and the rest area
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to make progress on the I-Move Kentucky project as crews work in several areas of I-71, I-64 and I-265. Paving work and blasting will require lane closures and a ramp closure on I-71 southbound and the closure of the I-71 southbound rest area at mile point 13 this weekend.
Blasting work on I-71 continues, requiring rolling lane closures and short-term road closures daily between noon and 3 p.m. while blasting is completed. Due to the proximity to the I-71 southbound rest area and to accommodate paving work this weekend, the rest area will be closed Friday at 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday.
On Friday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, paving work on I-71 southbound will require traffic to be reduced by one lane. The lane closure will begin near Highway 329 at mile point 14.5 and continue to the rest area at mile point 13.
On Friday from 8 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, the ramp from Highway 329 at mile point 14.5 to I-71 southbound will be closed.
Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen delays. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through active construction areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.
Other I-Move Kentucky Work Areas
I-71 – Work continues to widen to the roadway including excavation, bridge replacements, paving operations, and the installation sound barrier walls. Ongoing blasting work on I-71 requires rolling lane closures and short-term road closures daily, including some weekends, between noon and 3 p.m. while blasting is completed. Shoulder closures and overnight lane closures may occur during sound barrier wall installation. See planned traffic impacts above.
I-71/I-265 interchange – Work continues on new bridges, access ramps and along I-71 near mile point 9.1. The new collector-distributor lane opened earlier this year to improve safety for vehicles entering and exiting the roadway.
I-265 – Work continues to widen the roadway including excavation in the median and paving operations. Ongoing work requires traffic shifts on I-265 northbound and southbound between Shelbyville Road at mile point 26.8 and Taylorsville Road at mile point 23.1. Traffic shifts to enter I-265 from Shelbyville Road to accommodate ongoing construction of new bridge piers for the I-265 bridge also continue this month. See planned traffic impacts listed above. Traffic shifts on I-265 northbound continue for work on the median between Aiken Road at mile point 27.7 and Old Henry Road at mile point 28.8.
I-265/I64 interchange – Work continues to rebuild the interchange including a new bridge, access ramps and along I-265 near mile point 25.4.
