I-Move Week Ahead: Lane closures planned this week on I-64, I-265 for guardrail work

Traffic will be impacted near I-265/I-64 interchange

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to make progress on the I-Move Kentucky project as crews work in several areas of I-71, I-64 and I-265. Work to remove a temporary barrier wall, install a new guardrail and replace a damaged guardrail will require lane closures this week.

On Thursday from 8 p.m. until 12 p.m. Friday, work to remove a temporary barrier under I-265 and install a new permanent guardrail will require traffic to be reduced by one lane. The lane closure on I-64 eastbound and westbound will begin near the I-64/I-265 interchange at mile point 19.

On Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., work to replace a damaged guardrail on I-265 northbound will require traffic to be reduced by one lane. The lane closure will begin near Taylorsville Road at mile point 23.1 and continue to the I-64 interchange at mile point 25.4.

On Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., work to replace a damaged guardrail on I-265 northbound will require traffic to be reduced by one lane. The lane closure will begin near Aiken Road at mile point 27.7 and continue to the railroad bridge at mile point 30.4.

Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen delays. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through active construction areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.

Other I-Move Kentucky Work Areas

I-71 – Work continues to widen to the roadway including excavation, bridge replacements, paving operations, and the installation sound barrier walls. Ongoing blasting work on I-71 requires rolling lane closures and short-term road closures daily, including some weekends, between noon and 3 p.m. while blasting is completed. Shoulder closures and overnight lane closures may occur during sound barrier wall installation.

I-71/I-265 interchange – Work continues on new bridges, access ramps and along I-71 near mile point 9.1. The new collector-distributor lane opened earlier this year to improve safety for vehicles entering and exiting the roadway. See planned traffic impacts above.

I-265 – Work continues to widen the roadway including excavation in the median and paving operations. Ongoing work requires traffic shifts on I-265 northbound and southbound between Shelbyville Road at mile point 26.8 and Taylorsville Road at mile point 23.1. Traffic shifts to enter I-265 from Shelbyville Road to accommodate ongoing construction of new bridge piers for the I-265 bridge also continue this month. Traffic shifts on I-265 northbound continue for work on the median between Aiken Road at mile point 27.7 and Old Henry Road at mile point 28.8.

I-265/I64 interchange – Work continues to rebuild the interchange including a new bridge, access ramps and along I-265 near mile point 25.4.
