Contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s I-Move Kentucky Project are continuing significant roadway improvement work this weekend to lessen impacts on weekday travelers.

Crews will perform milling and paving work on Interstate 71 southbound at the interchange with the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265). Work in this area will start around 8 p.m. Friday and continue through 6 a.m. Monday. Drivers should be cautious when traveling in this area. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.

  • One lane of I-71 southbound will be closed.
  • Three ramps at the interchange will be closed overnight at various times during the weekend:
    • I-71 southbound to I-265 southbound
    • I-71 southbound to I-265 northbound
    • I-265 northbound to I-71 southbound
  • Starting tonight at 8 p.m.
  • Ending Monday, June 29 at 6 a.m.
  • Located between mile point 8.7 and mile point 9.8 of I-71

Work schedules may be adjusted due to inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.

Lane and ramp closures expected this week on I-Move KY project

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises motorists of upcoming traffic impacts this week as construction continues in several areas across the I-Move Kentucky project. This work will involve overnight and weekend lane closures in some areas of the project.

Drivers should be cautious when traveling in these areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones. Work schedules may be adjusted due to inclement weather or other unforeseen delays.

Gene Snyder Freeway, between Interstate 64 and Taylorsville Road – A construction crew will continue asphalt and roadway work in preparation for the eventual widening of Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265). Crews also are working on relocating utilities in the median area.

  • One lane of I-265 in either direction may be closed overnight.
  • Work is planned Tuesday through Thursday.
  • Lane closures may be in place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Located between mile point 23 and mile point 25 of I-265.

I-71/I-265 interchange – Milling and paving work continues this weekend on lanes of I-71.

  • One lane of I-71 southbound will be closed.
  • Three ramps at the interchange will be closed overnight at various times during the weekend:
    • I-71 southbound to I-265 southbound
    • I-71 southbound to I-265 northbound
    • I-265 northbound to I-71 southbound
  • Starting Friday, June 26 at 8 p.m.
  • Ending Monday, June 29 at 6 a.m.
  • Located between mile point 8.7 and mile point 9.8 of I-71

I-265 bridge over I-71 – Crews will begin working in the area for the eventual widening of the bridge.

  • Northbound traffic on I-265 will be shifted slightly, and temporary barriers will be installed.
  • Traffic on I-71 may be affected for short periods overnight as crews deconstruct portions of the bridge to widen it.
  • Stoppages on I-71 would occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Located at mile point 35 of I-265 northbound.

Brownsboro Road (KY 1694) bridge over I-71 – Crews continue construction of a retaining wall in preparation to replace the bridge over I-71. A water transmission line is also being relocated in the area in preparation of bridge construction.

I-265 bridges over La Grange Road – Maintenance and concrete patching work continues as part of improvements to I-265.

Work in this area will start around 8 p.m. Friday and continue through 6 a.m. Monday. Drivers should be cautious when traveling in this area. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.

  • Ramp from I-71northbound to I-265 northbound will be closed overnight Friday until Saturday morning.
  • One lane of I-71 northbound will be closed throughout the weekend.
  • Work will occur between mile point 8.7 and mile point 9.8 of I-71.
  • Work on I-71 southbound is tentatively planned for the weekend of June 26-29.

I-Move Kentucky Plans Weekend Lane Closures on I-71

Milling and paving work will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, June 19 

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises motorists of upcoming traffic impacts this week as construction work continues in several areas across the I-Move Kentucky project. This work will involve overnight and weekend lane closures as well as temporary stoppages of traffic in some areas.

A major component of the I-Move Kentucky project starts this week with roadway work on Interstate 71 at the interchange with the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265). Milling and paving work is planned over the next two weekends.

  • One lane of I-71 northbound will be closed
  • Starting Friday, June 19 at 8 p.m.
  • Ending Monday, June 22 at 6 a.m.
  • Located between mile point 8.7 and mile point 9.8 of I-71
  • Work on southbound I-71 is tentatively planned for weekend of June 26-29

Other construction

Construction and engineering work also is underway on the I-Move Kentucky project in the following project areas. Drivers should be cautious when traveling in these areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.

I-64/I-265 interchange – A crew will be performing geotechnical drilling in median areas to prepare for construction.

  • Left lane of I-64 westbound will be closed Monday, June 15
  • Right lane of I-265 northbound will be closed Tuesday, June 16
  • Work will occur overnight, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Gene Snyder Freeway, between Interstate 64 ramps and Taylorsville Road – A construction crew will continue asphalt and roadway work in preparation for the eventual widening of I-265. Crews also will remove existing cable barriers and begin underground utility work.

  • Located between mile point 23 and mile point 25 of I-265
  • No traffic impacts are expected

Ramp Closure Planned Overnight Friday

Paving crews will close I-64 eastbound ramp to southbound I-265

KYTC will close the ramp from I-64 eastbound to I-265 southbound overnight for milling work.

Construction crews for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s I-Move Kentucky project will close the ramp from I-64 eastbound to I-265 southbound overnight. The closure of the ramp will allow crews to mill the existing roadway and replace the asphalt in preparation for the eventual widening of the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265).

Work on the ramp at Exit 19A will begin Friday night and continue through Saturday morning. The ramp will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and a detour will be in place. Access will be maintained for emergency vehicles.

Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of the ramp closure. Detour signs will reroute traffic through the other ramps of the interchange, using I-265 northbound and I-64 westbound to reach another ramp for I-265 southbound ramp.

I-265 lane closures continuing

Potential lane closures also remain in effect though a stretch of I-265, just south of the interchange.

Milling and asphalt work is underway on I-265, between the I-64 ramps and the Taylorsville Road interchange. The work zone runs from mile point 23 to mile point 25 of I-265. Nightly lane closures of one lane in either direction will be in place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The planned closures are tentative and may be affected by weather.

*Note: the originally planned closure for Thursday, June 4 was moved to Friday, June 5 due to inclement weather.

I-Move Kentucky Construction Starting Next Week

Work on Gene Snyder Freeway will require overnight lane closures

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises motorists of upcoming traffic impacts next week as construction work begins in two of four project areas included in the state’s I-Move Kentucky project. Overnight closures on the Gene Snyder Freeway and intermittent stoppages on Brownsboro Road are expected.

“As we work to ensure the health and safety of Kentuckians during this time, we must continue to move transportation forward responsibly with the current situation and long-term vitality of the state in mind,” Gov. Andy Beshear said.

“This regional project will upgrade two major interchanges to significantly improve safety and add lane capacity to roadways that serve as key freight corridors businesses rely on to transport goods and people depend on to access jobs,” KYTC Secretary Jim Gray said.

I-Move Crews to Work along Northbound I-71

Lane closure planned to install safety barrier for utility work near mile point 10.2                             

On Monday (April 20, 2020), contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s I-Move Kentucky project will temporarily close one northbound lane on Interstate 71 – just north of the Gene Snyder Freeway – to install barrier wall along the shoulder.

The right lane of I-71 will be closed at mile point 10.2, where Brownsboro Road (KY 1694) crosses the interstate. Work will be completed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and drivers should be cautious when traveling in the area. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of the lane closures.

The barrier wall installation is underway to prepare for an upcoming waterline relocation work in this area.

I-265 Lane Closures Coming for I-Move Project

Drilling crews will work overnight along I-265 between I-71 and I-64 over the next two weeks.

Contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s I-Move Kentucky project will close lanes on Interstate 265 (Gene Snyder Freeway), starting Tuesday, April 7, as they perform geotechnical work over the next two weeks.

Crews will be working along sections of I-265, between the I-64 and I-71 interchanges. The work will occur between mile point 25 and mile point 35 of I-265.

Portions of the left lane of either northbound or southbound I-265 may be closed for the safety of workers and the traveling public. Work will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., from April 7 to April 17, and drivers should be cautious when traveling in the area.

Signage will be in place to alert drivers of the closure and workers in the area. Crews working in the field will follow the state’s social distancing guidelines while advancing this important project.

I-Move Kentucky is the largest construction project in Kentucky since the Ohio River Bridges Project was completed in 2016. The four-year project will add lane capacity and includes improvements at two, major interchanges where I-265 converges with I-71 and I-64.

Clearing and site preparation work also are underway on the project, primarily along the I-71 corridor between I-265 and KY 329 in Oldham County. Initial construction work on the I-Move project is expected to begin this month, starting along I-71.

No timetable has been set to start construction along I-265, but clearing and site preparation work began in late March. The entire I-Move project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 2, 2020) – Contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s I-Move Kentucky project will close lanes on Brownsboro Road near Norton Commons Tuesday as they perform utility work in preparation for construction in the area.

A lane on Brownsboro Road will be closed periodically Tuesday as part of preconstruction work for the I-Move Kentucky project.

A crew will be working on Brownsboro Road (KY 1694), just south of the point it crosses Interstate 71, and will close a single lane to traffic while work is underway. Work will be completed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and drivers should be cautious when traveling in the area. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of the lane closures.

The utility work is underway to prepare for replacement of the KY 1694 bridge over I-71 later this year at part of the I-Move Kentucky project. The bridge is being widened to accommodate the eventual widening of I-71.

Other project activities

Drilling crews will close one lane near Old Henry Road for safety

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 20, 2020) – Contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s I-Move Kentucky project will close lanes on Interstate 265 (Gene Snyder Freeway), starting tonight, as they perform drilling work over the next few nights.

Overnight lane closures are planned this week on I-265 in eastern Jefferson County.

A drilling crew will be working on I-265, just south of the Old Henry Road interchange, and will close a right lane to traffic while work is underway. Work will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., and drivers should be cautious when traveling in the area.

The geotechnical drilling is planned at mile point 28.3 of I-265, between the Shelbyville Road and Old Henry interchanges. Signage will be in place to alert drivers of the closure and workers in the area.
