Current I-Move Kentucky Work Areas

I-71 northbound at Moser Farm Road – Blasting work on I-71 northbound and southbound at Moser Farm Road is under way and will continue daily this week. Excavation work is needed to eventually widen this area of the I-71 corridor to a total of six lanes. Rolling lane closures and short-term road closures will take place on both northbound and southbound lanes daily, including some weekends, between noon and 3 p.m. while blasting is completed near mile point 11.8 of I-71 northbound.

I-71/I-265 interchange – Crews recently completed work for a soil nail wall and cement stabilization with paving planned to start this week. This work along the southbound lanes of I-71 and the widening of the corridor to add a collector-distributor lane will improve safety for vehicles entering and exiting I-71 southbound. No traffic impacts are expected as work continues at mile point 9.1.

I-71 southbound between Brownsboro Road bridge and I-265 bridge – Preparation work in this area is ongoing to allow for widening of the corridor and construction of a new Brownsboro Road (KY 1694) bridge over I-71. This work zone is located between mile point 10.3 and mile point 9.1 of I-71 southbound. No traffic impacts are expected this week.

I-71 southbound between Highway 329 and the rest area – Crews continue to work to extend a culvert that will allow for the widening of I-71. No traffic impacts are expected as work continues between mile point 14.5 and mile point 13.5 of I-71 southbound.

I-265 between Taylorsville Road and I-64 – Crews are continuing to perform drainage and lane widening work in the median between northbound and southbound lanes of I-265 between Taylorsville Road and I-64. No traffic impacts are expected as work continues between mile point 25.4 and mile point 23.1.

Current I-Move Kentucky Work Areas

I-71 southbound between Chamberlain Lane and I-265 interchange – The left lane of I-71 southbound – between mile point 10 and mile point 9 – will be closed overnight Wednesday. The lane closure will allow crews to move barrier walls in anticipation of a planned lane switch in the area later this week. On Friday, lanes also will be closed to shift lanes to the left for upcoming work on the right side of I-71 southbound.

I-71 northbound at Moser Farm Road – Blasting work on I-71 northbound at Moser Farm Road is under way and will continue in the coming days. Excavation work is needed to eventually widen this area of the I-71 corridor to a total of six lanes. The left lane will be closed on I-71 northbound overnight Thursday to prepare for blasting. Rolling lane closures and short-term road closures also will take place on both northbound and southbound lanes daily, including some weekends, between noon and 3 p.m. while blasting is completed near mile point 11.8 of I-71 northbound.

Blasting work will resume in a new location on I-71 northbound at Moser Farm Road. and continue moving south in the coming days. This excavation work is needed to widen the corridor and add a collector-distributor lane that will improve safety for vehicles entering and entering the area. Some associated rolling lane closures and short-term road closures will take place on both north and south bound lanes this week between noon and 3 p.m. to keep motorists at a safe distance while blasting is completed near mile point 11.8 of I-71 northbound.

Construction Crews Commence Blasting Work on I-71

Rolling closures planned on I-71 over coming weeks

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is advising motorists and residents of potential traffic impacts over the next few weeks on I-71 near the I-265 (Gene Snyder Freeway) interchange as part of the I-Move Kentucky project.

Crews excavating near the interchange will perform daily blasting to widen the corridor and add a collector-distributor lane on I-71 southbound. The new lane will improve safety for vehicles entering and exiting I-71 southbound at the I-265 interchange.

Blasting is underway along I-71 southbound at mile point 8.7, just south of the Springdale Rd. overpass. This work may continue daily, including some weekends, over the next few weeks. Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather.

For the safety of the traveling public, rolling closures and occasional stoppages will occur on I-71 during blasting. These rolling closures are scheduled to occur once daily, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Traffic on I-71 will be slowed or stopped at the following points prior to the blasts near the highway:

  • I-71 southbound, starting at the Oldham Co. rest area, mile point 13
  • I-71 northbound, starting at the I-264 (Watterson Expressway) interchange, mile point 5.1
  • I-265 ramps to I-71 southbound, at mile point 9.1

Contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s I-Move Kentucky Project will be working overnight Sunday to lessen impacts on weekday travelers on Interstate 71 southbound.

Crews will perform cement stabilization work in the median along I-71 southbound, between the KY 1694/Brownsboro Road bridge over I-71 and the interchange with the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265), to prepare for the eventual widening of I-71. As a result, the left lane of I-71 southbound will be closed overnight Sunday.

The lane closure will occur between mile point 9.1 and mile point 10.2 of I-71 southbound.

Work in this area will start around 6 p.m. Sunday and continue through 6 a.m. Monday morning. Drivers should be cautious when traveling in this area. Signage will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.

Construction work planned overnight Sunday and Monday

Contractors for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s I-Move Kentucky Project will be working overnight and during the weekend to lessen impacts on daily travelers on Interstate 71 southbound.

Crews will be working along I-71 southbound, between the KY 1694/Brownsboro Road bridge over I-71 and the interchange with the Gene Snyder Freeway (I-265). As result, the left lane of I-71 southbound will be closed overnight Sunday, August 9, and overnight Monday, August 10.

The lane closure will occur between mile point 9.1 and mile point 10.2 of I-71 southbound.

Work in this area will start each night around 8 p.m. and continue through 6 a.m. the following morning. Drivers should be cautious when traveling in this area. Signage will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.
