I-Move Weekend Report: Paving work at I-71/I-265 interchange requires lane and ramp closures this weekend

Traffic will be impacted on I-71 southbound and I-265 ramps

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to make progress on the I-Move Kentucky project as crews work in several areas of I-71, I-64 and I-265. Ongoing work for surface paving will require lane closures on I-71 southbound and ramp closures at the I-71/I-265 interchange this weekend.

On Friday from 8 p.m. until Saturday at 6 p.m., work to pave the collector-distributor (C-D) lane on I-71 southbound and three access ramps will require lane and ramp closures. The C-D lane near mile point 9.4 of I-71 southbound will be closed while this work is completed as well as three ramps at the I-71/I-265 interchange including: ramp from I-71 southbound to I-265 southbound; ramp from I-265 northbound to I-71 southbound; and ramp from I-71 southbound to I-265 northbound.

 

 

On Saturday from 8 p.m. until Sunday at 11 a.m., work to pave the I-71 southbound mainline roadway will require traffic to be diverted to the collector-distributor lane. The closure will start at the entrance to the C-D lane near mile point 9.4 and continue past the I-265 bridge to near Springdale Road at mile point 8.7.

On Sunday from 8 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m., work to pave the shoulders of the I-71 southbound mainline roadway will require traffic to be diverted to the collector-distributor lane. The closure will start at the entrance to the C-D lane near mile point 9.4 and continue past the I-265 bridge to near Springdale Road at mile point 8.7.

 

 

Surface paving work at this interchange is scheduled to continue for several days after these pieces are completed through early August.

Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen delays. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through active construction areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.

Traffic shifts to enter I-265 from Shelbyville Road to accommodate ongoing construction of new bridge piers for the I-265 bridge also continue this month.

Week Ahead: Overnight lane closures planned this week on I-64, I-265

Nightly starting Tuesday (tonight) from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning, traffic will be reduced by one lane in each direction (eastbound and westbound) on I-64 at the I-265 interchange while bridge work is completed and a temporary barrier wall is removed in the area. The lane closures will take place near the I-265 bridge at mile point 19.

Weekend Report: Construction work requires lane closures on I-71 and Shelbyville Road this weekend

Traffic will be impacted on Friday and Saturday

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to make progress on the I-Move Kentucky project as crews work in several areas of I-71, I-64 and I-265. Work to install sound barrier walls on I-71 and restriping operations on Shelbyville Road will require lane closures Friday and Saturday.

On Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane on Shelbyville Road under the I-265 interchange for striping work. Crews will be restriping the roadway to designate a single turn lane from Shelbyville Road to I-265 southbound at mile point 26.8.

On Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane on I-265 northbound to perform striping work. The lane closure will begin near Shelbyville Road at mile point 26.8 and continue to LaGrange Road at mile point 30.4.

Motorists will be shifted to a new traffic pattern to enter I-265 from Shelbyville Road to accommodate bridge construction. The first phase of this shift will be implemented this week. New roadway markings and adjusted traffic signals will assist in directing traffic through these changes. The second phase will be enacted after the North pier of the new I-265 bridge completes construction later this year.

On Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane on I-71 southbound while crews install sound barrier walls. The lane closure will begin near the I-71 southbound rest area near mile point 13 and continue to Chamberlain Lane at mile point 9.8.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to make progress on the I-Move Kentucky project as crews work in several areas of I-71, I-64 and I-265. Work to set beams for an I-265 bridge over I-64 will require lane closures and intermittent road closures this weekend. This is in addition to previously announced traffic impacts on I-71 this Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane on I-265 northbound and southbound to accommodate cranes to set beams for a new bridge over I-64. The lane closures will begin at the I-64 interchange at mile point 25.4 and continue to near the S. Pope Lick Road overpass near mile point 25.

Work to set beams for the bridge will also require traffic to be reduced to two lanes on I-64 eastbound and westbound as well as short-term road stoppages of approx. 15 minutes each on I-64. Rolling road closures will take place as each of the three beams are set over I-64. Closures will be between Blankenbaker Parkway near mile point 17 and Simpsonville Road at mile point 28. These lane closures will provide a staging area for beams and equipment.

I-Move Kentucky previously announced a major closure on I-71 this weekend while the old KY 1294 bridge is demolished. Motorists were shifted to the new bridge Wednesday afternoon to accommodate for this work. Find more information on this closure and detours here.

The closures will begin at the I-64 interchange at mile point 25.4 and continue to Shelbyville Road at mile point 26.8. Lane closures will shift as striping work is completed.

This closure will ensure the safety of the public and construction crews while evacuation work is conducted nearby. Crews will close the entrance to the rest area at 1 p.m. and check for any remaining vehicles at 2 p.m. before conducting blasting work between 2:30 and 3 p.m. daily. Barricades will be removed, and the rest area will be reopened when deemed safe by construction crews following blasting.
