I-Move Update: Major traffic shift planned on Shelbyville Road starting next week

UPDATE: This switch has been rescheduled for Wednesday, July 14 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

New traffic pattern will accommodate ongoing bridge construction work

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is advising motorists and residents of potential traffic impacts this weekend on Shelbyville Road (U.S. 60) at the I-265 interchange as part of the I-Move Kentucky project. Several lanes will be shifted to a new traffic pattern to accommodate the next phase of bridge pier construction for the expansion of I-265 overhead.

On Wednesday, July 14 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. Thursday morning, intermittent lane closures will be required as crews shift several lanes of Shelbyville Road to the new traffic pattern. Work includes updating signage, adjusting signal heads, restriping the roadway and installing plastic lane delineators.

This new traffic pattern will require motorists traveling east on Shelbyville Road to cross to the other side of a concrete median to enter I-265 northbound. This lane was previously a dedicated turn lane for vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. Signage and roadway markings will be installed to alert motorists of the switch as lanes move to the left of their original placement.

I-Move Kentucky is expanding I-265 from four lanes to six lanes between the I-71 interchange and Taylorsville Road. Widening this roadway, which includes the expansion of this bridge, will improve safety and relieve congestion on this heavily traveled corridor.

Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen delays. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through active construction areas. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.
