I-Move Traffic Alert: Long-Term Lane Closure on I-64 Starts Thursday

Work at the Interstate 265 (Gene Snyder Freeway) and I-64 interchange will require long-term lane closures starting Thursday, Dec. 15. The work is part of the I-Move Kentucky project.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, the left lanes of both I-64 East and West will be closed at the I-265 bridge. This is a long-term closure that will allow for construction to begin on the new flyover bridge over I-64 as part of the reconfigured I-64/I-265 interchange.

The lane closures will not affect access to the interchange ramps.

Also beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, I-71 South will be reduced to one lane from KY 329 (Crestwood/Peewee Valley) to Moser Farm Road near mile marker 12. The closure will last until 6 a.m. Friday and will allow for temporary barrier wall maintenance.

Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen events.

Drivers should use caution when traveling through active work zones. Signage will be in place to alert drivers of active construction zones and closures.

I-Move Week Ahead: Lane and Road Closures Next Week for I-71 Bridge Work

Work on Interstate 71 will require multiple overnight lane and road closures next week as part of the I-Move Kentucky project.

Beginning 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, Chamberlain Lane under I-71 will be closed to allow a contractor to demolish the existing bridge piers next to the roadway. The closure will last until 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The same closure will also be in place:

  • 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21
  • 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, to 6 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22

Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen events.

Motorists should use caution when traveling through active work zones. Signage and flaggers will be in place to alert drivers of lane closures and construction zones.

I-71 South Closure Scheduled as Resurfacing Project Ramps Up

This project is not part of I-Move Kentucky but is expected to increase traffic through the I-Move corridor.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that a 10-day closure of Interstate 71 South has been scheduled for later this week in Louisville.

I-71 South will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, to 7 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, between I-264 (Watterson Expressway) and I-265 (Gene Snyder Freeway). The ramps to I-71 South at the I-265 interchange will also be closed.

The suggested alternate route for motorists on I-71 South and I-265 South will be I-265 South to I-64 West to I-264 East to I-71 South. Motorists on I-265 North can continue to U.S. 42 West (Exit 37) to I-264 East to I-71 South.

Regional traffic signs and electronic message boards were posted in the project area well in advance, notifying motorists of the closures and alternate routes. Motorists should heed signage, use caution and expect delays while traveling through the work zones.

In August, KYTC announced a $7.6 million asphalt resurfacing project for I-71 between I-265 and the bridge over Blankenbaker Lane at mile marker 3.7. The southbound closure will allow contractors to complete more extensive repairs to the base of the southbound lanes between I-264 and I-265. Northbound lanes will remain open during the southbound closure. The entire project is scheduled to be completed this fall, except for some work on the interstate bridges within the project.
