I-Move Traffic Alert: Long-Term Traffic Split for I-265 South Lanes Starts This Weekend

Work on Interstate 265 (Gene Snyder Freeway) will require a long-term split of the southbound lanes starting this weekend, as part of the I-Move Kentucky project.

The long-term split of the southbound lanes will replace the current northbound traffic split that has been in place for the past year between I-64 and U.S. 60/Shelbyville Road. Lane and ramp closures will be in place this weekend to allow crews to implement the split.

Saturday, Dec. 2

From 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, the following ramps will be closed:

  • Ramp from I-64 West to I-265 North (Exit 19B)
  • Ramp from I-64 East to I-265 North (Exit 19B)

There will be no access to I-265 North from I-64 East or West during this period.

From 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, drivers on I-265 North will be moved to the far-left express lane. Drivers on I-265 North will not be able to exit to I-64 (Exit 25) or Shelbyville Road (Exit 27) during this time.

Sunday, Dec. 3

From 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, the ramp from I-64 West to I-265 South (Exit 19A) will be closed to complete the traffic split.

Long-Term Traffic Split

During the long-term split, left-lane traffic on I-265 South will be moved across the median to utilize current northbound lanes, and barrier walls will be in place to separate northbound and southbound traffic.

This will be a long-term split to replace asphalt with concrete on a high traffic area of I-265 South. It will not reduce capacity for regular traffic, but a width restriction will be in place for this area during construction.

During this phase of the project, all traffic on I-265 South needing to exit to I-64 will need to be in the right-hand lane.

Work schedules may be adjusted due to weather or other unforeseen events.

Motorists should be cautious when traveling through active work zones. Signage will be in place to alert drivers of the lane split.
